Since 2009, the Association has periodically commissioned independent experts to establish comparisons of remuneration for senior grades in the Irish civil service (Assistant Secretary General and Secretary General) with comparable employment in the private sector in Ireland as well as with comparable civil service grades in other jurisdictions. These studies have been carried out on our behalf by Mercer, one of the world’s largest human resource consultancy firms.
The Board decided in 2020 to commission Mercers to undertake a new and updated comparison of remuneration for senior grades in the Irish civil service (Assistant Secretary General and Secretary General) with comparable employment in the private sector. The study has now been finalised (May 2021) and can be found in the members’ area.
This is the latest in a long line of such studies. Earlier studies conducted between 2009 and 2017 are available publicly on our Documents page.
